THE RISE OF JESSIE BATES by Paul Antokolsky

£4.00

An off-beat tale of smuggling from days of yore, and an enterprising wife who finds her true calling by storing a dangerous smuggler’s goods without telling her husband, Jack. Jack finds it, imagines it was placed there as a trap by the eagle-eyed new customs man, and quickly sells it himself. Jessie’s smuggler returns for his merchandise, finds that it is missing, and threatens her life. Jessie saves the day by selling her smuggler an even bigger trove that Jack had unexpectedly hidden –at such a fine price than Jack could only celebrate when the confusion lifted, and praised his new partner.
