PROMISES, PROMISES by John Emms

£3.50

Roger, having just died, arrives to catch a train to the Afterlife. The Stationmaster tells him that Alison, his former girlfriend, has been waiting for him since her death years previously, relying on mutual promises exchanged at the time. For Roger this is inconvenient. Mildred, an American flapper, appears, fed up with waiting for her unfaithful lover. Unaware of Roger’s history she accepts his suggestion that they get together, but then Alison arrives, looking for Mildred. Learning about Roger’s unfaithfulness, she and Mildred eventually decide that girlfriends are more reliable than men, so they go off in partnership, leaving Roger facing an uncertain future.
