LOVING MATHEW by Wendy Bryan Michaels
When a brilliant young man struggles with addiction and mental illness, his vulnerable sister fights to keep him from harm over seemingly insurmountable odds.
MATHEW has been an alcoholic his entire life when one night he gets so drunk he staggers onto the freeway and gets hit by a car and barely survives. His sister Kathy has just left a very manipulative and controlling relationship so caring for Mathew is the ideal antidote. Within a short period of time, Kathy notices Mathew’s behavior is far beyond addiction and suspects Mathew is struggling with mental illness. The problem is that her ex-partner still controls her purse strings and has the influence to fix Mathew’s problem but with huge strings attached. Mom seems to be in denial about Kathy’s observations and is more concerned with Kathy’s caretaking qualifications and the permanent damage that Mathew could occur living with Kathy.
Will this recent accident be enough of a hitting bottom that Mathew needs to listen and does Kathy, recently separated, have the strength to care for him without the controlling emotional and financial support of her ex-girlfriend and what gifts will Mathew end up giving Kathy?
