LIFE BEGINS (AGAIN) AT 50 by Andrew Hull

£3.50

It is Carol’s 50th birthday and her family are coming to visit.  Her son is back from university and her daughter has a new boyfriend.  Her best friend is running late, but she has found tickets for a Bahamas holiday hidden in her husband’s sock drawer.  Today is looking like a good day, but not for long.

Her son wants to drop out of uni and not follow in his father’s footsteps to take over the family law firm, her daughter’s boyfriend is actually a girl with questionable fashion sense and her husband gives her a card with £50 and a scratch card for her birthday.  Just when she thinks things can’t get any worse, her husband tells her he’s having an affair with his secretary and wants a divorce.

She eventually blows and sends them all packing, only for her best friend to arrive, singing happy birthday and without the first idea about what’s gone on.  They resolved to spend the £50 at the local pub to drown Carol’s sorrows, but then she scratches the card and wins a million.
