KEEP FIT by Emma Northcott

£3.50

Despite being in lockdown the Keep Fit class attempt their weekly workout via Zoom. A comic tale of middle-aged friends who’ve let themselves go during lockdown.

Missing their exercise routines and fearing that they’ve let themselves go during the coronavirus lockdown a group of friends meet, via video conferencing, to attempt a virtual keep fit class. They talk about cancelled events, weight gain, on-line gambling and absent friends before Penny begins the class. Each character joins in from their own homes, until Celia points out that they could all turn their individual cameras off in order to focus on the instructor. Unseen by Penny and Viv the others drink alcohol, eat cake and smoke e-cigarettes while the work out continues. At the end of the session Viv is exhausted but the others, having had a lovely time are keen to meet the following week. Meanwhile David has nodded off.

ZOOM PRODUCTION NOTES

This is best viewed in ‘gallery view’ so that all screens are viewed simultaneously throughout the play. It is advisible to remind your audience not to watch in ‘speaker view’ where the viewer would only see the actor who is speaking at the time, similar to a television close-up of a single speaker and therefore missing the visual comedy in the other screens.
