HANGING ON by Neville Judson

£4.00

A man preparing for suicide looks back at the high points and low points in his life. Based on the life and death of John Menlove Edwards, a pioneering rock climber.

Description

CHARACTERS

J MENLOVE EDWARDS: A man aged early forties. John Menlove Edwards, known to everyone as Menlove, was a rock climber who pioneered climbs that are still popular – so-called “classic climbs” – and an adventurer. He became increasingly mentally unstable – probably at least in part because he was a gay man living at a time when that placed him outside both the law and social acceptability. In places I have used Menlove Edwards’ own words. He poisoned himself on 2nd February 1958 – his third or fourth attempt at suicide.
