REVIEWS
Everyone Cries The First Time by Nieve Hearity
Written specifically for Jessica Warshaw, Nieve Hearity’s touching monologue revisits a very well-trodden story. A young grad student tries to work her way through medical school with a little escort work on the side. Of course, it all turns very sour and the young lady learns a valuable life lesson. The joy here is in the freshness of the writing and a beautifully pitched performance from Warshaw, who brings a confident physicality to role. Blair McAlpine’s direction manages to subtley convey the desperation of the woman’s dilemma, while maintaining her inner strength. This story has been told many times in many ways, but rarely with such honesty and warmth. The big criticism is that this is too short a piece. Hearity writes such entertaining dialogue, I really want to se her work expand to a full length play.
