A DEGREE OF CONTENTMENT by Peter Gartner

£6.00

Doug, a man in his late seventies, confides to his younger wife, Jane, in her late fifties, how contented he feels with his life; but then he remembers his relationship with Paul, his stepson, in which he felt obliged to punish the younger man for his misbehaviour. Jane tells him that they are to be visited by Paul and his wife, Daisy, who arrive and start questioning if Doug’s verbal punishment of Paul was really necessary. Daisy says the act of telling Paul off for his past misbehaviour has psychologically damaged him, and she demands an apology from Doug, but this is difficult for Doug to accept, as he still thinks Paul was in the wrong, but Daisy insists his misbehaviour was due to mental health issues and he could not help how he behaved.
